Mission: The frances woods home on redwood serves women in need of transitional housing for up to 18 months, assisting them in regaining their independence. They are required to participate in community activities to promote independence and this typically takes the form of volunteer work, adult education courses, or seeking employment.
Programs: The league serve up to 16 women, providing them with housing, counseling, and social services. Residents may stay up to 18 months in our transitional program. This program has become a primary housing resource for many women with mental illness and/or abuse histories in san diego county through the years.
The Big Sister League (BSL) of San Diego Inc. was funded in 1942 by Francis Woods and is a 502 (c) 3 nonprofit organization. BSL houses low income women with a mental illness. The program is geared toward helping the residents of BSL gain confidence, self-esteem and self-reliance. I have personally witnessed women go from having not self worth to running an accounting firm. The BSL promotes and empowers every woman that come through their program.
