Mission: To improve the quality of life of residents in trenton and neighboring communities by empowering individuals and families socially, educationally and spiritually.
Programs: Capital youth mentoring program delivers indepth individual mentoring to increase the participant's self-esteem, level of trust and motivation for positive future development and success. 40-45 participants were served. Training our youth to succeed (toys)program. Developed relationship with the students against violence everywhere program to provide training and workshops around the issues of violence. Developed tutorial program with lawrenceville prep to support homework component of the program. Provided peer mentor support and community awareness to pregnant and parenting african american women and their families within the city of trenton. Teaching our teens to achieve (tta)facilitated monthly self-esteem workshops to address the role that self-esteem plays and how it impact their lives. Developed a youth mentor program to allow the older youth to function as mentors for the younger children. Conducted first college tour with students selected to participate. Continued children's defense fund freedom school (cdffs) progam during the summer. Five classes of 10 children for a total of 50 children in 5th through 8th grades. The programs are educational, recreational and culturally enriching that provide a safe, fun and nurturing learning environment during the summer months.
the cancer education and early detection (njceed) program provides breast, cervical, prostate and colorectal cancer outreach, education and screening services to eligible people who are of low income and are uninsured or underinsured. General requirements: must reside in new jersey women age 18 years and older men age 50 years and older high-risk populations and anyone with a personal or family history may begin screening at a younger age. Special emphasis placed on women 50-64 years of age, whose income fall within 250% of the federal poverty level.
partnered with the department of labor and workforce development to deliver and provide services to unemployed and underemployed parolees through a program referred to as etf (engaging the family) program. The program is intended to help the parolees transition back into the community and reconnect with the family. The program provides job coaching, employment preparation and placement services to parolees of the new jersey state parole board.
family life community wellness resource center is a community based career service center established to target the underserved segment of the community with guided, self-service venues with sensitivity to the needs of the community. The center provides efficient and effective delivery of servies for employment opportunities such as resume preparation, on-line job search, job-fairs, and work readiness workshops, with employment skill sets. The community resource center also develps and maintains a calendar to provide families with up-to date information on community events and programs. The trenton historic development collaborative (thdc), a group of more than 20 neighborhood organizations, businesses, and residents who are committed to revitalizing their community. The thdc target area stretches from willow street to hermitage avenue and from rutherford avenue to west state street. Priority projects including a new community resource center to be housed at the carver center, job training and placement services, financial literacy and parenting training, and health and wellness programs, among others. Scholarships provided to students aspiring to further their educational pursuits. Six 1,000 scholarships were awarded during the fiscal year ended june 30, 2014
