Mission: A spiritually based organization of faith communities to educate and advocate for social justice, dignity, and to improve quality of life for all people by being a bridge between community needs and partner resources. Scio engages with the community to transform lives, one family at a time.
Programs: Bridgeway is a residential transitional living program for single women with children who are homeless or living in vulnerable situations. Families are able to reside at bridgeway for up to two years. This extended programming allows them to experience stability, participate in programming and work extensively with a case manager to set goals in order to remove some of the barriers that have caused their past instability. In 2017 bridgeway served 10 mothers with 21 children. Bridgeway "& beyond" refers to women with children that are served outside of the residential program through outreach. 39 families were served in outreach in 2017. (continued on schedule o) trisha's house is a single family home off site that bridgeway graduates are eligible to apply for. Trisha's house provides supplemental rental costs in addition to case management and programming.
supervised visitations - provides a safe and positive way for children to visit with their parents as their families experience a difficult or transitional time. The children and visiting parents are given a private, child-friendly room to spend time together. Children and parents are monitored by a trained staff who is neutral to the family situation. Supervised visitations may be required by the court, health and human services, or requested as self-referrals. In 2017 scio's supervised visitation program served 25 families. 63% of children who were served by the program can now see their parent without supervision.
farmer's market - the farmer's market makes available fresh native products directly from farmers to residents. Working to help local farmers remain vibrant, educate the community on healthy eating, and provides a social experience that helps build community. Vouchers were given out to low income families who were served by the senior farmers market nutrition program, the sheboygan county food bank, wic, and lakeshore community health center. Additionally 9,442 was spent at the market by foodshare participants through their snap benefits and the double the bucks program. 116 vendors participated in the 2017 summer and winter markets.
