Mission: The shawnee mission education foundation promotes innovative and challenging teaching and learning in shawnee mission kansas public schools (usd 512).
Programs: Educational enhancement - the foundation makes district grants in collaboration with district curriculum leaders to fund program enhancement and growth. Examples include project lead the way, a national stem (science, technology, engineering and math) curriculum and the jump start summer program to give at-risk students entering kindergarten a "jump start" in their success. Excellence in education (e2) grants fund individual classroom or district-wide projects to enhance innovative learning in the classroom. The foundation directly funds district programs in the arts, early childhood, and stem (science, technology, engineering and math). In addition, the foundation funds specific projects based on identified needs.
scholarships - the foundation awards scholarships to students and graduates in the shawnee mission schools (usd 512). In 2017 scholarships were made to 21 graduating students from 9 scholarship funds designated for post-secondary education. In addition, fees were paid for 6 current 11th grade students for summer study on a college campus.
community outreach - the foundation provided more than $26,000 in funding for direct emergency assistance to more than 40 students' families for expenses such as housing, utilities, transportation and medical expenses. In addition, the foundation funded programs to engage the community and promote innovative education in shawnee mission schools.
