Programs: Seniors on a Mission (SoaM) is partially funded by the Jessie Ball duPont Fund of Jacksonville and is partners with the Salvation Army. SoaM currently has 300 senior citizens involved. We serve 30 local nonprofit organizations including; : Clothing Warehouse / Dignity-U-Wear, First Coast Women?s Services, Healthy Start, Hope Haven Children's Clinic, Housing Partnership, Jefferson Davis Middle School, Keepsafe, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Project SOS, Salvation Army, Seamark Ranch Children?s Home, Word to Works, and YMCA of Florida?s First Coast.
My view into SoaM is from my friends who are part of “the mission teams”. There are many ladies and men from my church who truly enjoy their participation in the one-day missions. As seniors, it gives them a place to make a difference, provide valuable support to their local community, to be productive. And to spend time with old and new friends, work hard and have fun. And the projects/missions they do support other non-profits in our area. Every community should be so lucky to have an SoaM.
