Mission: To foster independence and self-sufficiency enabling seniors within the city of alexandria to age with dignity.
Programs: Senior services of alexandria provides transportation for alexandrians with disabilitites to any destination within the city of alexandria, fairfax couty, and arlington county through its transportation project. Over 55,500 trips are typically given on an annual basis for these services.
meals on wheels provides and delivers meals to homebound senior alexandrians through the use of volunteers. An average of 45,000 meals are delivered through the program each year. Deliveries are made 365 days a year, there is no income threshold, and service is provided to alexandria residents 60+ years old. Each delivery includes one hot meal and one cold meal which meet dietary guidelines established by the state of virginia.
grocery delivery program enables seniors in alexandria who are unable to do their own grocery shopping to order groceries and have them delivered by volunteers. Orders are taken by phone, there is no minimum order, and no delivery fee. Volunteers will also help put away groceries and remove outdated products.
other programs include animeals, caring connections, information and education programs, and the friendly visitor program. Friendly visitor program pairs volunteers with socially isolated seniors. Approximately 4,000 friendly visits are made per year.
