Mission: To provide quality and compassionate services for the survival, health and independence of seniors living in poverty.
Results: Senior Community Centers’ innovative programs have been empowering at-risk seniors for almost 40 years. : Last year, the nutrition staff served 344,000 nutritious, hot meals and is projecting to serve 1/2 million this year. In addition to our congregate dining facilities and home delivered meals program we have two supportive housing units which provide affordable rooms, on-site nurse, social worker, and mental health case managers to provide all of the support seniors need to live independently.
Target demographics: More than three-quarters of our clients have incomes below the federal poverty level of $850 per month and most are single and live alone with no families to provide support. Many exhibit one or more risk factors including poverty, malnutrition, chronic medical conditions, mental illness, homelessness, and isolation. Nearly one half suffer from some sort of mental health challenge including depression or dementia, and nearly 80 percent have chronic health conditions, some under control but many untreated before they begin to work with our staff.
