Mission: The Seattle Chinese Garden is a non profit organization dedicated to building a world-class Chinese garden at the South Seattle College.
Programs: Traditional sichuan-style garden: the garden provides an opportunity to celebrate seattle's rich chinese heritage and increase understandings of and connections to china as an important global and regional partner in the areas of business, education, and cultural exchange. The 5-acre park-like garden site is open to the public seven days a week, free of charge. Docent-led group tours are available for community and educational organizations. Approximately 15,000 people visited in 2014.
peony and bamboo festival: in 2014 about 1,800 people in total attended the peony festival in early may and bamboo festival in mid may (each a two-day, free event). Both festivals include talks and demonstrations on plant care, plant and craft sales, and entertainment, and cultural programs and activities emphasizing the importance of peonies and bamboo in chinese arts and cultural traditions.
kite festival: seattle chinese garden, boeing asian american employees association and microsoft chinese employees association hosted the first annual kite festival. The festival included a full afternoon of cultural entertainment and activities. More than 600 local residents attended the event.
