Mission: Search and restore is a new-york-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to developing and uniting the audience for new jazz and improvised music in new york city and beyond. Our priority is to use creative concert presentation and internet outreach to change the current public perception that jazz is only a music of the past.
Programs: 2013 for search and restore kicked off with another annual co-production of the nyc winter jazzfest, in its 9th year. We helped facilitate the addition of a few new venues, including the culture project theater (a 350 seat theater in the round) and the bowery electric (a small rock club) to allow for better crowd management, in years past the free roaming festival audience could sometimes get bottlenecked at only a few venues so we upped the ante by adding these new spaces with really stellar lineups in each one. May 2013 brought the undead music series, which featured a team up with the red bull music academy to present a night of improvised round robin duets at the brooklyn masonic temple. The sold out event had 1,100 in attendance and featured ? Uestlove, matana roberts, glenn kotche, bernie worrell and many more improvising in the round robin duets. The next three nights of undead were a residency by minneapolis multi-instrumentalist martin dosh, featuring different openers and bands every night, including local artists as well as andrew bird and some minneapolis musicians as well. In the fall, september brought another residency, also at the shapeshifter lab in brooklyn, which featured legendary new york jazz freaks sex mob. Those residency shows were funded by grants from nysca and dca.
