Mission: Schools for children, inc. Was organized in 1981 as a not-for-profit charitable organization to provide a wide variety of primary and secondary educational programs. The organization is dedicated to fostering the development of children, adolescents, and young adults by creating a broad range of high quality learning environments and specialized services which allow and encourage each individual student and employee to reach his or her fullest potential. This includes schools such as the lesley ellis school, seaport academy, and dearborn academy. Schools for children currently serves over 300 students from the greater boston area annually.
Programs: Dearborn academy is a chapter 766 approved educational day school serving students aged 6 to 22 with learning differences often complicated by emotional and behavioral issues. Dearborn's comprehensive program stresses academic instruction/remediation, therapeutic intervention and school skills development. At dearborn, students struggling to learn find a stable secure environment in which they can thrive and innovative programs designed to rebuild their interest in learning. Dearborn uses a multi-disciplinary teaching approach tailored to each student's needs.
lesley ellis is an independent day school serving students pre-school through grade eight. Lesley ellis also operates educationally-focused kindergarten and pre-school programs. Lesley ellis offers a child-centered developmental approach to learning with special emphasis on a low student-to-faculty ratio, a comprehensive anti-bias/multicultural curriculum and early foreign language instruction. The school traces its origins to 1889 and has operated as the lesley ellis school since 1949.
seaport academy is a private chapter 766 approved day school serving boys aged 14 through 18 with learning differences often complicated by emotional and behavioral issues. The school combines an innovative core academic program with hands on learning in a maritime setting in chelsea, ma. Seaport is a small alternative program tailored to adolescents who have lost interest in traditional studies and have "gotten lost" in large public high schools as a result of severe learning differences and/or significant health problems.
