Mission: The santa clarita shakespeare festival is primarily for education purposes:producing a festival of theatre, music, and cultural events, and educational activities for the northern los angeles county area. Participating in the creation and operations of a permanent space for the festival activities, and presenting year-round educational programs for area students and the community at large.
Programs: Initiation of crezca teatro comunitario program: a theatre program for the spanish speaking and bilingual residents in the santa clarita and antelope valleys. A original script amali was developed, produced, rehearsed, and presented as part of the latin music and cultural festival. The program served 25 community members and artists for the project, and was attended by more than 700 people.
latin music & cultural festival added to the la summerfest. Music, cultural performances, food, arts and crafts all celebrating latin and latino heritage. Ford theatre/los angeles county arts commision free concert was featured as part of the festival lineup. Inclusion of over 7 performance groups, 35 performers, and 25 artisans and vendors. More that 700 people attended the festival.
earthday clowns "conservation conversation" - an original, devised theatre presentation for k-6 grade students teaching the lessons of conservation and recycling. The program partnered with the santa clarita performing arts center k-12 arts education program to reach 12 title 1 school sites with 26 performances and reaching more than 8,500 students. The program also utilized 7 artists to create and perform this piece. Earthday clowns is our first program to receive production specific contributions/sponsorships. All artists (contractors) involved in the program were paid. This program was booked into schools as a partnership with college of the canyons k-12 arts education program
the shakespeare in the park production this year was an original musical adaptation of william shakespeare's twelfth night. . . . 12th night: a rock musical, play for 8 performances during the summer as part of the wider la summerfest.
this year scsf received in-kind equipment donations from atkaudio (sound equipment); prg production resource group (lighting equipment); and la opera (staging); city of santa clarita (waived park fees, fencing & electric)
