Programs: Lamoille valley gleaning lvg - salvation farms fully re-launched our lvg program in 2017 with the hire of a full time staff person to run the program. Operations cosisted of weekly gleans and pick-ups of unmarketed produce from 20 farms. A total 48,159 pounds of 46 different crop types were gleaned by lvg in 2017. Sites receiving gleaned crops included rehabilitation programs, food shelves, youth elder programs, meals on wheels, and affordable housing sites. More than 150 volunteers contributed an excess of 500 hours.
vermont commodity program vcp - salvation farms continued leasing a 5000 square foot facility in winooski for the crop handling and workforce development activites of the vcp. We continued to sublease the onsite kitchen and bakery, roughly 1300 square feet, to love local catering. The vcp is vermonts first surplus crop food hub and uniqually maintains its operations through a post-harvest handling and light-manufacturing training program. vermont gleaning collective vgc - salvation farms provided facilitation and leadership while the vgc renewed and clarified its vision in 2017. Salvation farms hired a consultant to help the collective define its new structure a member-led community of practice with working groups to dive into specific topics. The vgc ended 2017 with a total of five member organizations, including salvation farms. The collective lost a member in 2017 due to the organization desolving rutland co. . In 2017 the vgc member organizations gleaned a combined 145,473 pounds from 126 farms. Volunteers contributed a total of 2,710 hours, gleaning a variety of 55 different crop types. A total of 121 food access sites received gleanings - including the vermont foodbank who makes food available to more than 215 agencies.
