Causes: Arts & Culture, Theater
Mission: The mission of the St. Marys Children’s Theatre (d.b.a Saltwater Performing Arts) is to provide performing arts education that inspires and enhances the cultural life of the coastal communities of southeast Georgia and northeast Florida by offering a stimulating, creative, and supportive outlet to youth, families and the community, helping them build self-confidence and character, while developing self-expression, independence, and responsibility.
Results: Saltwater Performing Arts is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization established in 2014 as St. Marys Children’s Theatre to provide performing arts educational programs to the coastal regions southeast Georgia and northeast Florida. The strategically planned first production of Peter Pan set the tone as a place where fun, imagination, and endless possibilities could take flight. St. Marys Children’s Theatre has since successfully introduced children, families and the community to the highest level of performing arts education and performance. In only 4 years, St. Marys Children’s Theatre experienced rapid growth in the number of participants and productions, ultimately dividing a large K-12 ensemble into Junior and Mainstage troupes. In 2018, The St Marys Children’s Theater rebranded and revamped with a new name, a third Encore adult troupe, and new quarterly class offerings as Saltwater Performing Arts. In addition to theatre productions, Saltwater offers production workshops, celebrity masterclasses, educational programming, technical theatre classes and theatre camps. Moreover, we produce shows accessible to the community as affordable family entertainment. Residents and visitors from surrounding communities are able to enjoy performances of the highest caliber without having to travel to surrounding metro areas.
Target demographics: We envision a theatre program where young people are inspired, challenged and driven to contribute to the community and to be a leader in today’s world, through developing the full potential of young people as members of the community, enhancing the quality-of-life component with expanded exposure to the arts, and achieving the highest possible standards of theatre through artistic excellence.
