Causes: Boards of Trade
Mission: The specific purpose of this corporation is to act as a business league of bonded winery members for the purpose of educating the public and wine professionals about the qualities, history, and products of the region known as the russian river valley american viticultural area, as defined by 27 cfr part 9.
Programs: Russian river valley (rrv) pinot forum: one of the organizations means of implementing its goals is through the holding of an annual meeting and seminar for invited influential wine professionals. This activity, which is an outgrowth of a similar educational event pioneered by a group of rrv wineries prior to the formation of this entity, is known as the pinot forum, after the major grape varietal grown in the rrv american viticultural area (ava); pinot noir. The 2014 pinot forum was held in august of 2014. Influential wine directors and sommeliers from around the country were invited to participate. In a three day period, several educational events were held that included explanation of the unique climate, geology and growing conditions of the rrv, including the nature of its subregions, tours of vineyards in the subregions of the rrv ava, tasting of wines from the subregions, and food and wine pairings that accentuated the value of pinot noir to the food industry. A compendium of data about the rrv ava was prepared and given to the attendees as a study guide. This educational seminar benefits the attendees, the consumers that patronize their establishments and, indirectly, the wineries that produce wines from the rrv ava, as well as the many grape growers in this region. , the pinot forum events were not held so theat the organiztion could refine and refocus its direction for 2014.
