Roosevelt Jazz Booster Club

Programs: The roosevelt jazz band booster club promotes the development of theroosevelt high school jazz programs by providing financial assistancefor jazz program students to participate in musical activities, bypromoting students' recordings and productions, and by organizing andconducting fundraising and performance events. The roosevelt high school jazz program served over 80 students in fourgroups for the 2015/2016 academic year: jazz band i, jazz band ii,jazz band iii and vocal jazz i. During the year the boosters organized a number of successful fundraisers and events, including the 28th annual big band dance andauction, two public performances and two elementary school outreachperformances of ellington's jazz nutcracker in the roosevelt high school performing arts theater. Estimated total attendance was over1300. Jazz band i was invited to perform along with four other top areajazz bands at the starbuck's-sponsored hot java cool jazz at theparamount theatre. Other performances included the earshot jazzfestival, sunset club and end of year concert at roosevelt high school. Roosevelt jazz combos were hired throughout the year to provide musicat special events such as galas and fund-raisers, giving students theopportunity to perform in smaller groups. Also of note is jazz bandi's invitation to the prestigious essentially ellington competition innew york city. During the 2015/2016 school year the roosevelt jazz groups participatedin the following festivals:jazz band i - essentially ellington competition, new york city, may 2016clark college festival, vancouver, wa, january 2016bellevue college jazz festival, february 2016jazz band ii -clark college jazz festival, vancouver, wa, january 2016monterey next generation jazz fesitival, monterey, ca, march 2016jazz band iii - monterey next generation jazz festival, monterey, ca, march 2016bellevue high school festival, may 2016vocal jazz - monterey next generation jazz fesitival, monterey, ca, march 2016columbia basin college jazz fesitval, may 2016jazz band i and vocal jazz are daily classes which meet during theregular school day. Jazz ii/iii and vocal jazz ii meet 2-3 days perweek after school. All classes are given the opportunity to attendworkshops and clinics offered throughout the year. Student scholarships and financial aid was distributed by the boostersto student musicians to cover dues, as well as festival and travelexpenses.
