Mission: To provide care and comfort for the families of seriously ill, critically injured or medically fragile children who are being treated at area medical facilities.
Programs: Ronald mcdonald house charities of central georgia owns and operates the ronald mcdonald house located in macon, georgia. The 13 bedroom facility provides temporary lodging to families of seriously ill, critically injured or medically fragile children who must leave their own community to seek medical care for their child. The house serves children receiving treatment at the medical center of central georgia's children's hospital, coliseum hospital, and many other specialty pediatric clinics. Continued on schedule o. In 2016, ronald mcdonald house served 362 families for a total of 3,265 room nights: 20% came from up to 50 miles away, 65% came from 51 - 149 miles away, and the remaining 15% came from over 150 miles away. They must be referred to for medical treatment by a physician and be undergoing inpatient or outpatient care at a critical care facility. We ask a donation of 15 per night per family, which only partly defrays operating costs. The average length of stay was 9 nights. Funds are also collected through the annual newsletter, direct mail appeals, special events, solicited and unsolicited gifts, and foundation grants. 51,349 in in-kind donations of goods and services were received in 2016. Major in-kind donations include meals for families and guests, furniture for residents, soft drinks, gift certificates for guests, cleaning supplies,cable and internet services, household goods and certificates for food at a grocery store. A core group of volunteers helps support the staff and guests of the ronald mcdonald house by providing office assistance, light housekeeping, meal preparation for families, gardening and maintenance, event planning and assistance. During 2016, we had a total of approximately 4,637 recorded volunteer hours by our generous volunteers. Due to the increasing need for our services, the number of families we serve rising, as well as the average length of stay reachng record numbers, we have begun the process of expanding our program and services. This planned expansion includes the construction of another facility on adjoining property which will more than double our capacity to serve families in need.
