Mission: Our mission is to protect and restore water. Our vision is a thriving community, economy and habitat through clean, abundant water.
Programs: In partnership with five other partners, we completed the first two phases of a multi-million dollar effort to pass sturgeon around two dams on the menominee river. This project includes a "fish elevator" to help them go up stream and a tube or "waterslide" to help them return downstream. This project has removed two barriers to upstream passage and opened up 21 miles of the menominee river to allow lake sturgeon to travel to their seasonal spawning, wintering, and foraging habitats.
river alliance continues to train and organize citizens to protect and preserve their rivers and watersheds. This work includes training and supporting citizens and watershed protection groups with, among other things, technical assistance in fundraising, communications and other strategies for policy reform and board and member development. We also provide considerable moral support for group leaders. Additionally, we continue to support and expanded the blue water business consortium. We also continued to coordinate with local citizens and organizations to encourage people to enjoy wisconsin's water resources.
we continued our work to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species by educating citizens on how to identify, report, and remove invasive species. We hosted our annual aquatic invasive species snapshot day, which brought out over one hundred citizens to inspect stream crossings for invasives.
we launched a pilot program to engage dairy producers and processors in north central wisconsin around the certification of water stewardship. This pilot will provide a new way for advocates to support improved water quality, through their engagement as consumers.
