Mission: To empower inner city teen girls towards becoming strong, confident, successful and moral future leaders.
Programs: Rwf college prep program with the alarming achievement rates in most public schools, rhonda walker foundation is committed to ensuring that our teens are college ready upon graduating from high school. Our college prep program ensures that every teen has access to year- round tutoring in all subjects and act/sat preparation courses through our partnership with tlab accelerated learning centers; college tours that take our teens not only across the state but also across country to tour historically black colleges and universities. We strive to provide our teens with the tools necessary to make a smooth and successful transition from high school to college through financial aid seminars, workshops on the college application process, mentoring and coaching in identifying a college to attend as well selecting a major. Rwf also provides each graduating senior with a scholarship to assist with college expenses.
personal development program the rhonda walker foundation believes that an empowered and successful young woman has been exposed to a wide variety of life experiences as well as been given the tools to navigate through a myriad of social and professional environments. Our personal development programs include three weekend retreats: 24 hour girl talk; camp i can; and our bi-annual winter wonderland retreat. Each of these experiences is designed to help our teens to face and overcome challenges; practice team building as well as self-determination and to support and encourage each other.
career development programthe career development program pillar provides instruction in interview skills, resume writing, financial literacy, etiquette, public speaking and our signature dress for success workshop that instructs our teens on how to dress appropriately for the workplace, college interviews and professional social occasions. Teens are also provided with opportunities to do job shadowing, internships and participate in our summer jobs program at a wide variety of businesses and corporations.
mentoring and community outreach the rhonda walker foundation understands that it is important that teens have positive role models in adults with whom they can discuss their challenges, success and future goals. Each year we match teens with a carefully screened professional mentor who provides support and critical guidance. Although we ask our volunteer mentors to commit for one year, the bond becomes so strong that they stay to see their mentee through high school. It is this spirit of giving back that rwf strives to instill in every teen who is a part of our girls into women program. Through our community service and outreach programs, our teens volunteer at local charities, work with the homeless, create gifts for ailing children, visit elders in nursing homes. Our teens are encouraged to seek ways to improve and give back to their communities and propose activities for the foundation.
