Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Education, Scholarships, Scholarships & Student Financial Aid

Mission: Recycling For College is a nonprofit corporation formed to provide an opportunity for students to earn college tuition through recycling. The nonprofit organization raises funds through our certified recycling community service program, which allows us to collect public recycling from events and venues to support our mission. Student participants will recycle beverage containers and deposit the cash redemption value into a 529 College Savings Plan for the use of college tuition and expenses. The goal of the organization is to match each participant’s deposits earned from CRV to support their recycling and educational efforts. Currently, there is no other known program that provides the opportunity to earn college tuition through recycling. The potential for the program is limitless. The mission of Recycling For College is to provide accessibility to a college education for students of diverse backgrounds through recycling. Our goal is to provide a means for college savings at no cost for students who make recycling an active part of their lives.

There was a ravine near our house that was polluted with trash. It appeared to be a dump site for all types of things from aluminium cans and aluminium foil, plastic and glass bottles, paper, wire rolls, parts of a rusty swingset, old lawn mower, metal posts with cement connected to them among many other things. We saw this as an opportunity to get out and clean up an area near our house. This was a great time to educate our daughter that is 7 about what can be recycled and really is not trash, unless irresponsible people just throw it out. We also had the chance to talk about the harm it has on our environment. It was a great experience for our family. It is always nice to get your hands dirty and help do something great. We should always leave a place cleaner than when we were there. We then were able to take our daughter to the recycling place to show her where all the stuff can be recycled. Usually we just put it out on the curb for recycling guys to take it. It was a very educational and fun experience for our family.. Thank you!

My family collected 40 pounds of recycling to earn free tickets to Disneyland through the "Give A Day, Get A Disney Day" volunteer program. It was fun and easy and we felt good about not throwing containers in the trash. I think it is a great idea to recycle for college!
