Nonprofit Overview
Causes: Children & Youth, Education, Literacy, Remedial Reading & Encouragement, Youth Development Programs
Mission: READ USA's overall mission is to open pathways for children in under-resourced communities with book choice and ownership, one-to-one literacy tutoring, multicultural literacy programming, professional literacy instruction development for educators, all to positively impact grade level reading proficiency, workforce development, building a diverse teacher pipeline and ending the cycle of generational poverty.
Target demographics: Our goal is to solve illiteracy.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Since 2019 we have served over 4100 elementary students, 1500 teen tutors, and over 280 teachers with an evidenced-based tutoring model. READ USA is fully equipped to train certificated teachers to coach teen tutors to provide one-to-one literacy tutoring to elementary students making low reading progress.
Geographic areas served: Northeast Florida
Programs: READ USA's largest program is our One-to-One Literacy Tutoring Program. Starting in Duval County’s most under-resourced communities, the multi-faceted model READ USA created is resolving the nation’s literacy crisis by transforming teens and elementary students into proficient, passionate readers and lifelong learners through a whole-child approach.
From research-backed evidence and best practices, READ USA has formulated programming that is transformational not only for one child, teenager, or teacher, but for a community and education system as a whole.
