Mission: Read lakeland, inc. Is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to teaching basic literacy skills that include, reading, writing, math and english language skills to adults who are low literate or speakers of other languages. Established in 1995 by volunteers as a community-based organization to promote adult literacy, read lakeland has provided one-on- one and small group tutoring services to hundreds of adults in lakeland and surrounding areas. Read lakeland is dedicated to improving the quality of life in the community through teaching basic literacy skills to adult nonreaders and promoting adult and family literacy.
Programs: For all adults with low literacy skills and who are willing to put forth the effort to learn, we provide a means to end the tragic cycle of illiteracy and its correlation with unemployment, poverty, and accompanying social ills. Read lakeland recruits, trains, matches and supports volunteers who would like to tutor adults in need of literacy services. Read lakeland tutoring services include basic adult literacy support for adults preparing to enter a ged program or want to improve learning skills that will help them gain entry to a higher level learning institution, or for their personal improvement, and english as a second language (esl). All of our services are provided at no charge to the learner. While most of our tutoring is one-on-one, we have small group tutoring in writing skills and english conversation.
