Mission: Reach Out and Read Colorado is a non-profit established to prepare Colorado's youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and encourage families to read together. This mission is achieved by providing new books and anticipatory guidance at well-child visits for children ages from birth to five years old.

Programs: The Reach Out and Read program was expanded throughout Colorado, distributing 230,000 books with over 2,000 healthcare partners through 328 clinics statewide. Reach Out and Read Colorado's mission is to prepare Colorado's youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and encourage families to read together. Reach Out and Read Colorado trains doctors and nurses to advise parents about the importance of reading aloud and to give books to children at pediatric checkups from birth to 5 years of age with a special focus on children growing up in poverty. By building on the unique relationship between parents and medical providers, Reach Out and Read Colorado helps families and communities encourage early literacy skills so children enter kindergarten prepared for success in school. As a research based program, Reach Out and Read Colorado staff facilitate long-term relationships with clinics for program delivery and oversee program quality through activities to include annual on-site quality visits and on-going technical assistance.
