Mission: To make contributions (a) to charities which are exempt from federal income taxation under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code or for the charitable purposes of such charities, (b) to states, territories or possessions of the united states or any political subdivision or to the united states or district of columbia for a charitable purpose, or (c) for any public charitable purpose described in section 501(c)(3) and permitted under the laws of florida.
Programs: The rjcef operates donor-advised funds as the major part of its charitable operations and conducts its funds in accordance with the requirements imposed for the maintenance of such funds. At the beginning of april 2016, the rjcef maintained 2,365 donor advised accounts. During the fiscal year an additional 487 donor advised funds were established while 69 were closed. The number of donor advised accounts at the end of the period was 2,783. During the fiscal year, the rjcef made 12,648 cash grants to different 501(c)(3) public charities totaling $58,001,705. In addition, 256 grants totaling $1,970,430 were accrued during the period but unpaid at fiscal year end. Total grant expense amounted to $59,972,134 or 19. 2% of the beginning of the year net assets were paid or accrued. The grants were made to organizations in the following broad categories:- 35. 5% to faith based and religious organizations- 18. 8% to social service organizations- 19. 5% to schools and educational institutions- 8. 0% to medical and scientific research and treatment of disease- 4. 1% to the arts and museums- 5. 7% to environmental and animal organizations- 8. 4% to various other public charitable organizations
