Random Acts of Reading is near and dear to my heart as a children's author. Providing books for children for literacy is one of our gifts we can share. Reading is a platform that allows us to develop our imagination and creativity!
Penny Eifrig from Random Acts of Reading has done a great job getting a team of people together (authors, publishers) to provide creative and fun ways to bring unique multicultural books to kids from diverse backgrounds.
Random Acts of Reading is an exceptional example of an individual who identifies a social need and then thinks out of the box to propose one of many solutions to the problem. In this case, it is getting books that engage the child, teacher and parent in the issues that concern us in a fun and lively way into schools, libraries and places where children gather.
Penny's proposal of placing books in institutions in a way that children and teachers can see the covers and select a book that speaks to them is refreshing and bold. Will she be a raging success? I hope so, her project deserves all the support she can muster. Timothy Sheard, author
I cannot praise Random Acts of Reading high enough. Their mission to extend children's literature into the deepest enclaves of poverty and societal neglect is not only admirable, it's an absolute necessity, if we hope to keep all our children on the path to success and competitiveness. Their commitment, and actual actions, will do more to further reading in this age of electronic decline than any other non-pofit I know. They are truly a gift to children everywhere!
Random Acts of Kindness has a unique and noble cause which has great benefits in short term as well as long term in building more inclusive communities by sharing diverse books with everyone. I was thrilled to come across their page and mission. Placing vending machines with diverse books in schools will help children access these and create awareness thereby creating inclusion. Hopefully this effort will help raise global citizens of tomorrow.
What is Random Acts of Reading?
It’s not merely a nonprofit that connects children to books. Random Acts of Reading is an organization dedicated to promoting childhood literacy in underserved communities and to bolstering a child’s creativity and most importantly, self esteem.
Anyone who contributes —through volunteering, financial donations, hosting author events, or reaching out to schools—is helping to cement a stone on a path of achievement for countless children who may otherwise be left behind on the roadside.
I contribute. Will you join me?

By introducing kids to authors, by giving them a book of their own, and by encouraging them to write their own stories, kids feel seen, appreciated, and heard. Random Acts of Reading provides these important elements of learning and literacy to kids in underserved communities. It is effective and efficient in streamlining the services to the kids. By collaborating with other non-profits, it is able to expand its reach well beyond its local origins. Soar with RoAR!
Random Acts of Reading has creatively connected with local schools to bring out the best in students and their communities! It brings authors right to students’ classrooms and encourages them to write their own stories. It empowers them to write and helps them understand that their voice is important!
It is often difficult to make sure all students are exposed to a variety of books to help them grow their vocabulary and comprehension. With Random Acts of Reading, Philipsburg Elementary was able to provide our 1st and 3rd-grade students with a variety of books that helped them continue to grow as young readers. It is a proven fact that the more children are exposed to books, the higher they become intellectually. Eifrig Publishing and Random Acts of Reading allowed our students to be exposed to up-and-coming authors. We shared this information with our entire community through our local social media outlets and the local newspaper. Our 3rd-Grade students began developing their own books after being exposed to authors similar to their ages. Philipsburg Elementary really appreciates what Random Acts of Reading does for our school!

Random Acts of Reading has created the opportunity for students at Philipsburg Elementary to enjoy books that they may not ever get a chance to enjoy. With over 50% of our students considered economically disadvantaged, we are always looking for ways to get books into the hands of our students!
Elfrig Pubslishing was able to make this happen! Each of first-grade student at Philipsburg Elementary received a copy of Perfectly Imperfect Parker by local author Dana Fonash. The books were donated by Eifrig Publishing through Random Acts of Reading (www.randomactsofreading.org.
The students were excited to learn about a gangly fir that was not like the rest of the "just right" Christmas Firs that families are normally looking for. This book shows students that each person has their own unique qualities that make them special in their own way!
We shared this story along with the attached pictures with our local newspaper, The Progress.
