Programs: Randolph cancer center's mission is to "provide quality health care and to promote health and wellness". Randolph cancer center provides the highest quality care regardless of race, creed, sex, national origin, handicap, age or ability to pay. Randolph cancer center focuses on a multidisciplinary approach in the management of patients diagnosed with cancer. For fiscal year october 1, 2016 through september 30, 2017 there were 379 new analytical cases and 95 non-analytical cases, which include cases seen for the first time at randolph cancer center for subsequent treatment, but who received at least one complete course of treatment elsewhere. (see continuation on schedule o)the cancer center served as a sponsor for the fourth annual "bikers for boobs" event held in august and the first annual motorcycles for mammograms, in september. The monies raised for both events will provide mammograms and emergency financial assistance to patients through the patient assistance fund and mammography fund. Randolph cancer center has been recognized by the quality oncology practice initiative certification program, an affiliate of the american society of clinical oncology, with a three-year certification for outpatient hematology-oncology practices for meeting the highest standards for quality cancer care. The program also renewed its triennial accreditation with the commission on cancer, with commendation, and received the outstanding achievement award for the 5th time since 2004. Also, the nc triad affiliate of susan g. Komen for the cure grant was renewed this year to ensure that underserved women, specifically african-american, hispanic and other minority populations, receive screening mammograms at randolph hospital's breast center. Thanks to this support we will be able to provide additional screening mammograms for minority women in randolph county at no cost to them. Rehabilitation services are offered for physical, occupational and hand therapy as well as speech language pathology to oncology patients who have been hospitalized or require these services on an outpatient basis. The services concentrate on strength, balance, coordination, endurance, mobility, range of motion, positioning, transfer training and patient and family education. The following programs are tailored to oncology patients:core therapy - the neurocom balance machine developed by nasa is used to assist with balance training to improve balance and reduce the number of falls. Aquatic therapy - this program has been especially useful for those oncology patients who need to start at a slower pace and who may initially need to learn relaxation as a basis to their therapy. Wii therapy - patients play on a wii station utilizing several therapeutic movements to improve their range of motion and strength. Speech therapy - assesses patients with swallowing and speech problems. Our program can train patients on the use of a voice box as well as voice therapy. The cancer center provides on-site comprehensive radiation services. These include:patient consultations, follow-up, monitoring and management of side effects throughout radiation treatments with daily availability of a board certified radiation oncologist and radiation oncology certified nursing staff. Simulations including large bore ct simulator, fabrication of custom immobilization and treatment devices including vacuum molds, 2 types of head casts, bite blocks, and bolus materials. Ability to merge mri, pet and diagnostic ct datasets for patient planning. Isodose planning with full time physics and dosimetry staff, including specialized 3d, and intensity modulated radiation therapy (imrt) treatment plans. Radiation treatments on sophisticated state of the art equipment having record and verify for quality assurance with each treatment. Image guided radiation therapy (igrt) capability is achieved with one board cone beam ct to assure accurate setup within just a few millimeters on a daily basis. These igrt treatments are checked daily by the therapists and physicians to correlate shifts in treatment position on the table with the original planning. Ongoing evaluation of treatment and radiation therapy options through chart rounds. Review and analysis of any noted toxicities in patients. Randolph cancer center understands that patients need not only physical, but also emotional and spiritual care. Cancer treatment must be designed holistically for each patient. All patients are offered access to our supportive care team staff which includes pastoral care, dietician, and social workers. Our enrichment services are a growing and vital part of the cancer center and include the following:social media - patients, their families and employees can connect on facebook, an online community that allows conversations and daily updates about the randolph cancer center. Some of the topics include patient financial assistance to different oncology treatment options. The healing garden - patients are able to gaze upon fresh evergreens, pinkish-red perennials and lively ferns. The garden was revitalized this year, it faces into the infusion room, thanks to the helping hands of many generous people within the community.
