Mission: The tides institute and museum of art builds and exhibits cultural collections; fosters and creates new cultural works; strengthes cultural ties within the greater passamaquoddy region, between new england and the atlantic provinces, and to the wider world; and engages a broader public through involvement with its activities and collections.
Programs: The organization is working to develop cultural collections (art, history and architecture) relating to the eastern coast of maine and the broader world to use for public exhibition in the museum and for educational purposes. In 2014 the organization acquired a series of sculptural works by helena simkhovitch, a notable female artist from the mid-20th century who worked seasonally in the passamaquoddy bay area. Other additions to the collection included furniture pieces from historical sites in the area.

The main building was maintained as primary center for collections. Upgrades in 2014 were made to archival storage materials and a second archive room was established after the 2014 renovation.
develop public programming, educational outreach, publications and workshops/events to foster the appreciation of art, history and architecture relating to the eastern coast of maine and the broader world. In 2014, hosted five month long artist residencies/outreach to schools, continued letterpress poster series, continued to publish cross-border art and cultural guide, in addition to exhibitions and lectures. Major restoration continued on additional building to provide working studio space,classroom/workshops space, and housing for visiting artists and artist residency program which will expand reach and allow for growth in public programming.
