My story begins 9 yes ago. My sister was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. She is now a survivor beating many odds. My mother has had a mass removed from her pancreas. Together we have started the purple iris foundation(501c3). We know the importance of spreading awareness for PC as it is very difficult to have diagnosed with todays medical technologies. We host our annual 5k "Pound the Pavement", have created a cancer support group, give complementary wellness services to patients and caregivers, assist those diagnosed to find treatment facilities and plant hope by sending out and planting the Purple Iris bulb. We are looking to purchase a home to offer wellness clinic for patients and caregivers of all cancer where the services offered will be complementary. Winning this would allow us a down payment for our facility and continue to raise hope for Pancreatic and other cancers.

In June of 2008, my life changed forever. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic cancer. It took 3 opinions, but I found a GreAT treatment team at Cancer Treatment Centers of America, 1200 miles away from my home. What I found during my time being treated...I was able to bring HOPE to individuals who were battling cancer. We would sit and chat or talk on the phone.
Well the next Spring rolled around and I found such beauty in the flowers blooming. My love of flowers came to life. I decided I want to Plant HOPE For Pancreatic cancer...which was only the beginning. I decided that I wanted to do an annual color/fun run...Pound the Pavement for Pancreatic cancer awareness....which led to my non profit, The Purple Iris Foundation. We then began having a cancer support group, offer reiki and other complimentary wellness activities and programs. We have started small and continue to build momentum, locally and are currently in the works of a community cancer and wellness center.
Cancer invaded my body and life...but it also gave me purpose. We are in this fight together and if I can bring hope or make a difference ...then I will have a life that's complete
