Mission: Public Domain Foundation works with artists and the recording industry to promote meaningful connections among music, issues of social concern and nonprofits that make a difference.
Results: In 2000, PDF launched the Music2Life (M2L) project, created to help activist musicians make a difference with their music. Over the past decade, M2L has: ➢ Sponsored five social justice songwriting contests which have helped identify more than 1,000 independent musicians from around the world. ➢ Gained the support and involvement of celebrities including: Tom Paxton, Tom Chapin, Len Chandler, Kathy Mattea, Judy Collins, Josh White, Jr., Buffy Sainte Marie, Houston-based rapper Baby Jay, Peter Yarrow, and Paul Winter. ➢ Launched a Fellows Program to help activist musicians collaborate with nonprofits and develop music-based social change programs. ➢ Produced a Fellows documentary film series to illustrate how music is used as a tool to heal, educate and inspire. ➢ Created the Music for Social Change Program, in partnership with Dartmouth College, that offers collegiate audiences public forums, songwriting workshops and inspiring performances.
