Programs: Arts in education programs: all school and grade level assemblies that promote the exploration of arts and science through interactive experiences, enhancing the classroom curriculum. Examples include local and regional history programs, creative arts, music and theater programs, hands-on science programs, character education presentations and health & wellness programs. The lion, the witch and the wardrobe by shakesperience productions grades 4, 5, 6 wcsd learning standards and nys learning standards include: higher thinking skills, goal setting/attainment, communications, and quality process. Presentation incorporates post-performance activities which include: encouraging students to use what they learned from the performance, discussing how the production was presented, exploring how using the voice differently can produce a different character, and using narration and mime to tell a story. All of these skills will help the students evaluate and improve their own performances in music class. Inspector iwannano by mobile ed productions grades k-6 as part of fes's pbis program we incorporate the 6 pillars of character. This program will reinforce what the students learn during school day and comes shortly after our character counts week. Inspector iwannano, a live character actor, delivers a strong message within a comedy-packed, magic-filled program. Students will learn to "focus on my actions" because actions show character. Inspector iwannano involves your students in a mystery as they try to uncover certain "character clues" - aspects of a good character. The character traits covered are: respect, trustworthiness, care, responsibility, fairness, and good citizenship. After the program, students will be given colored paper corresponding to the colors of the character pillars - red for caring, yellow for respect, etc. Students will create a poster, drawing or write a story about that character pillar and what it means to them. Christmahanukawanzam by mobile ed productions grades k-2 this assembly will be a kick-off for the first grade unit on holidays. First graders learn about holidays around the world with an exciting unit that has them travel to many different countries. When they visit each country they will learn what the flag looks like, they will watch short videos and read stories about the traditions of each holiday celebrated in the country and learn about the special food eaten during the celebration. Students will also create a project or craft to go along with each holiday to take home. The students really enjoy this unit because we use several different resources to give them the full effect of how children in the different countries celebrate the holidays. Hip hop dance residency by ny dance residency (edwin fion) grade 6 (4 days, dec) grade 1 (2 days, april) students will learn the importance of teamwork, individual expression, focused attention, applied direction and discipline. They explore these skills through coordination challenges, high-energy and fun-filled exercises as they celebrate their individuality in a setting that allows creative flow and joy. This program positively impacts the way students learn about history, music, movement, teamwork and discipline by giving them a visceral experience to pair with the information being taught. Students will choreograph their own hip hop dance and present their work. Students will analyze and critique work collectively. As students see and touch a 5 foot sturgeon puppet, listen to train sounds, taste salt, touch sea stars and smell fish, students are using works of visual art, improvisation and song to actively engage in participation in the arts while making direct connections to curriculum topics taught in the classroom. Learning takes place by the student actually carrying out a physical activity, rather than listening or merely watching a demonstration. Patriot and loyalists presented by boscobel house & gardens grade 4 this social studies based program takes students back in time to the revolutionary war and a reenactment of the battle of saratoga. The stage is set with reproduced artifacts from the time period. Students then gather around a 14' x 4' map of the hudson valley and experience loyalist's and patriots' efforts that lead to the patriots' victorious turning point in the american revolution. Native american vessel making with clif mendelsongrade 5 students will be constructing a vase that will be decorated with native american designs, imagery and patterns. They will employ 5 - 6 advanced hand building techniques under my instructions and supervision. As with many cultures, coil containers were used as storyboards to record our history. Clay coil containers were written on with artwork, very old alphabets, and designs that have revealed a great deal about human history. These pots came in all shapes and sizes. While constructing the coil containers students are embarking on a practice that has been shared by many cultures for many purposes. Vases are versatile containers that can be used for a variety of purposes. They come in many shapes and sizes, so as you build your coils, find a shape that you like and be creative. Visit the web pages to identify a specific kind of design, and then recreate the styles and patterns. Maybe your designs will reveal something about you to your classmates as well as tell a story. This lesson will provide you with a better understanding of art and culture, as well as the time and energy it takes to create a functional pot. Static electricity presented by lisa dimarzo/impact education grade 2 students become an atom through improvisation? They act out the energy of an atom. Showing positive faces for protons and negative faces for electrons, students carry out a physical activity engaging them in the learning process. Students demonstrate discharging electrons by throwing white balls through the air showing 'zaps of static or lightning bolts. ' students are using works of art (styrofoam balls with markings on them? Pictures of protons, electrons and atoms) while in an improvisation creating a hands-on learning experience. Curriculum topics are reinforced by using a van degraf generator where students recreate static discharge of electrons by showing attracting and repelling of objects off the generator. Creatures alive underwater learning adventures presented by mohonk preservegrade 2 through a hands-on investigation with local aquatic life, students interact with, identify, classify, and observe how these creatures live and influence their underwater environment. Students explore how clean water plays a vital role in our environment and in our health. Water cycle game-incredible journey presented by lisa dimarzo/impact education grade 3 students use their body go act out water as it moves through the states of matter. Using little energy and moving very little as they pretend to be frozen solid and using a great amount of energy as they move their bodies wildly as they pretend to be water as a gas molecule floating through the air. Students then play an interactive game following the path of a molecule of water as it moves through the water cycle. Students also sing a song while using body movements to act out the water cycle using science vocabulary? Evaporation, condensation, precipitation, collection. Using colored beads and a chenille stem, students create a story bookmark or bracelet as they travel as a water molecule. They collect 16 beads as they play the game and have created a very unique story. The butterfly guy--rick mikulagrade 3 rick's program will show the beauty of butterflies. Mounted specimens will demonstrate the mystery of camouflage and the trickery of disguise that butterflies and moths use to escape predators. 'live' butterflies are always the high point of every presentation as rick demonstrates just how easily they can be handled and cared for in the classroom. Teachers and students will learn how to raise butterflies and moths at any time of year by using simple, recyclable, household items. They will earn the secrets of butterfly gardens that will not only attract the flying jewels of the sky, but also cause them to lay eggs and start a population right at school. Bubbling potions presented by mad science of the hudson valleykindergarten students will be introduced to the concept of matter, and the properties and characteristics of its three most common manifestations: solids, liquids and gases. They will learn how and why matter changes between the different states, and will have a good understanding of elementary physical principles. The lesson will relate the material to the students' lives and school curriculum: they will leave with an understanding of the science behind the water cycle, carbonation, and even ho

At the end of the school year, a local officer comes to the school to speak with the children and fifth graders participate in a dare graduation. Fifth grade moving up: celebration of our graduating fifth graders in june. Gardening: maintaining the gardens at the front of our school. Hugs committee: special events that increase self-esteem and promote character education. Mary mcardle award plaque: plaque and yearly award to honoe student who excels in citizenship. Parp (parents as reading partners): reading program that encourages parents and children to read together. The program is designed to promote the love of reading by asking parents and other family members at home to set aside fifteen minutes a day to read with their children. Room parents: assist teachers, coordinate class parties, grade-wide events and hugs day picnic. Slt programs: support for our school leadership team and its projects. Staff appreciation: a week of celebrating our school's staff. Student assistance: financial assistance for those students who legitimately cannot afford magazine subscriptions and field trip volunteer appreciation: end of year program to thank our pta volunteers.
