Mission: Create opportunities to stimulate and revitalize social and economic development in under-served communities throughout miami-dade county serving minority groups, immigrants, women, teen-girls the homeless and ex-offenders.
Programs: After school program - starting with the 2015 school year, pscdg sponsors an after school program in the north miami library offering academic support with assistance in homework assignments and special projects for elementary and middle school students. If there are students that seem to struggle with some subjects they are given additional assistance and assignments to develop their skills.
summer camp - executed as a pilot program in 2014, it was again implemented in 2015 serving 40 children from the community. In a city throbbing with diversity, music, art and different cultures, many residents are unaware that miami-dade county has one of the lowest literacy rates in the united states. In order to ameliorate this situation, pscdg shine bright literacy summer camp targets at-risk children and youth ages 6 to 13 residing in low-income areas. The goals and objectives of this program are: to improve the literacy skills of at-risk and low-income children; to create a love of reading and learning; to address the issue of summer learning loss in reading and writing; and to inform parents and caregivers of their role as key educators.
adult literacy - pscdg launched this project in 2014 in response to the problem of illiteracy among women and teen-girls. The project entails not only teaching participants how to read and job skills, but gives them confidence to reach their dreams. The project builds self-esteem while improving their educational level and job readiness skills. The women and girls now project empowers participants to achieve success by providing literacy skills, job training, financial literacy, career guidance and support group.
