Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Children & Youth, Youth Development Programs

Mission: Project Promise is dedicated to improving the lives of at-risk youth on St. Croix by providing empowerment initiatives, cultural programs, and family services.

Results: Within the first year of opening The Caterpillar Project, our first cohort of Caterpillars made significant progress in their academic reports with 86% of the Caterpillars improving their GPAs and promotional GPAs between June 2016 and June 2017; one student made the honor roll within the first year. They are gaining the social-emotional skills needed for personal success such as competence and caring. Students have participated in several community service projects such as renovating a playground, constructing a memorial garden at Juan Luis Hospital and Medical Center alongside Howard University students, raising money to give school supplies to students with special needs, supporting a fellow classmate with a terminal illness, sponsoring Special Olympic athletes in Chicago, reading to preschool students, cleaning up school grounds and surrounding neighborhoods, and dozens more project and initiatives that made their community better than it was before.

Target demographics: At-risk youth

Geographic areas served: St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands

Programs: We provide programs that holistically support and empowers each child. From life coaching and personal wellness to academic intervention, community service, cultural programs, family services and more, Project Promise gives St. Croix’ at-risk youth an opportunity for positive change in a safe, secure, and nurturing environment, by introducing them to our natural resources, our history and culture, and our most valuable resource, themselves.

"It takes a village" aptly applies to the Project Promise goal. Children need structure and support. The leadership of this group gets it!!! Here there are lending a hand in the JFL Hospital Children's Memory Garden!
