Project Legacy

Programs: Healing circles: circles are a mix of support group and group therapy led by trained facilitators and therapists. All circles are held in a culturally responsive trauma-informed, therapeutic community setting that also allows youth to work on attachment repair, building healthy relationships with a positive peer group, and addressing and resolving trauma. In 2017 we held over 125 healing circles. Program participants included 30 college students, 15 high school aged youth, and 15 youth who were working or re-enrolled in ged programs. All were youth of color, 70% had experienced homelessness, 60% had been on probation at some time, 85% had parents who had been incarcerated and were chemically dependent.

case management: case management includes access to education, therapy, substance abuse treatment, legal assistance, and job placement services. Assists with the identification and implementation of positive goals for education, health and career. In 2017 we provided services and resources to eight youth referred through community corrections.

education and career guidance: project legacy assists youth with obtaining their ged or high school diplomas, tutoring for college entrance exams, college visits, application fees, tuition assistance and dorm supplies. Project legacy volunteers hold multiple study tables each week for high school youth and college youth. Project legacy collaborates with workforce devolpment, inc. To make youth aware of other post-secondary career training opportunities and supports them in their pursuit of these certifications. In 2017, project legacy was assisting 30 college students; 70% had been homeless. We made it possible for five youth to return to college through tuition assistance.
