Mission: PDN''s mission is to provide prisoners, and those who work with them, with the most effective contemplative tools for self-transformation andrehabilitation.
We support prisoners in the practice of contemplativedisciplines, with an emphasis on sitting meditation practice and thepractice and study of Buddhist teachings and other wisdom traditions. We promote these paths of wakefulness and non-aggression as idealvehicles for self-rehabilitation and personal transformation.
Webelieve in the power of the various mindfulness-awareness practices andbody-mind disciplines of the world’s contemplative traditions to changebehaviors, transform lives, and ultimately to reduce recidivism, prevent crime, and enhance community safety and well-being.
Programs:
"Path of Freedom" (POF) is a program we have developed for incarcerated youth and youth at risk based on the Peacemaker Institute's Integral Peacemaker Certificate Training program offered to the public.
POF participants learn mindfulness-awareness meditation, body-mindsynchronization, nonviolent communication, conflict resolution, andleadership skills, all grounded in the experience and context ofmindfulness-awareness meditation and contemplative spirituality. Theprogram is presented in a nonsectarian manner and is open toparticipants of any faith and/or those who do not identify with aparticular faith tradition. The participants develop greaterself-awareness, improved impulse control, greater social awareness andrelationship, communication and leadership skills that will give them anew vision for their lives and how they could contribute to theircommunities.
The class is taught by experienced and certified meditationinstructors, who have also been trained and interned in our PeacemakerCertification program and are skilled in facilitating groups innonviolent communication, conflict resolution, and wisdom based formsof leadership.
