Causes: Congregate Meals, Food
Mission: Our Mission • Affirm the dignity of all who gather at the meal site • Share a free, nutritional meal in a hospitable and safe setting • Collaborate with other Princeton agencies in addressing the root causes of poverty • Be alert and open to additional opportunities that would benefit the less fortunate in the Princeton area
Results: Starting with a vision of food and dignity for the hungry, then months of conversation, visits with other similar non-profit offerings, planning, recruiting over 70 volunteers, and publicizing, the Princeton Cornerstone Community Kitchen opened its doors on June 6, 2012. We were thrilled when 14 guests arrived that evening… we now serve over 100. It has continually served the less fortunate of the Princeton area every consecutive Wednesday evening, including holidays such as Christmas and New Year’s Day. Mid way through our fifth year, we have served over 17,000 meals, and distributed over 3,500 children’s Breakfast Bags to help start the child’s next day. Additional programs have been added, i.e., a free clothing store, RN for blood pressure and vision testing, English as a second language (ESL) course, art classes in paint, clay and origami, and basic computer education, planned for 2017.
