Mission: To protect, enhance, and restore the natural resources of coastal north san diego county.
Programs: Preserve calavera accomplishments 2016 public education: initiated, led and completed second california naturalist certificate program collaborating with university of california continuing education. All classes are led by preserve calavera board members, karen merrill and paige decino. Land restoration/clean-up: completed year 3 of a 5 year restoration of core habitat in village h to coastal sage scrub. Continued supporting improved management and monitoring through mhcp, hmp and regional habitat conservation programs. Supported local efforts to adopt/improve climate action plans. Watershed: continued support for improved watershed planning and storm water monitoring and enforcement by regional water quality control board. Board members perform bimonthly stream sample collection and monitoring in collaboration with coast keepers. Community outreach: connect with community through local events (e. G. Endangered species day), monthly newsletters and emails, volunteer clean-ups, nextdoor. Com, facebook and preserve calavera website interactions. Involvement with city of carlsbad, ca on general plan to encourage more parks and open space. Worked with developer of the robertson ranch development and secured commitments for improved protections to open space, wildlife, vegetation, creeks and buffers. Initiated and led buena vista creek clean-up project as part of coast keepers grant.
