Programs: For the 2017 fiscal year 75% of our direct labor employees are diagnosed with a significant disability. During that time, our life skills coordinator provided one-on-one guidance to many of those same employees, helping them with issues at home and at work so that they can live more independently. In the second half of fy17, premier alliances inc. Was the principal sponsor and organizer of a special screening of the locally-produced short film learning to drive, a film which stars an actor with down syndrome and provides a clearbut not overbearingmessage of inclusion and the hurdles of diminished expectations that many individuals with disabilities contend with. The event was a resounding success, with more than 300 people in attendance, requiring the expansion to a second theater screen. Also during the second half of fy17, premier alliances began initial discussions for supporting a grant-funded project to purchase and install wheelchair-accessible equipment in sierra vistas largest, most popular park. Premier alliances leadership made the decision to budget $16,000 for the next fiscal year in support of the effort, which was ultimately successful. The playground is scheduled to be installed in april 2018. This project is expected to benefit hundreds of people, including children with mobility challenges, their siblings and their families. In the final month of fy17, premier alliances staff and resources were used to sponsor and organize a free youth tennis camp for children with disabilities. The camp was conducted by a local tennis coach with decades of experience, and the half-dozen children who attended the free six-day camp in july 2017 were provided with tennis racquets and professional, one-on-one instruction.
