Mission: We will partner with our community in assuring the best quality of life for our seniors now and into the future. Our vision is to advocate and provide resources for seniors to remain healthy and independent.
Programs: Transportation - transportation is provided for preble county residents to locations within 50 miles of eaton, ohio for medical appointments. Transportation is also provided to preble county residents to support daily attendance at meal sites, workplaces, and local shopping trips. The council maintains 17 vehicles to provide this service, several of which are equipped with wheelchair lifts. The number of residents served during 2016 increased over the prior year.
independent living services - includes homemaker services, information and referral services, congregate and home delivered meals, and supportive services. The in-home services department is designed to keep persons age 60 and older, living in preble county, in their own home for as long as feasibly possible. Both the congregate meals and home delivered meals provided increased during 2016 over the prior year. The homemaker staff provides assistance with house cleaning, grocery shopping, and laundry to those who are not able to perform these tasks themselves. Assistance can be provided for short-term or long-term needs and supplements any help available from family and friends. The information and referral staff will provide assistance with insurance benefit questions including medicare, problem resolution, tax return preparation, and a variety of applications for programs, such as home energy assistance program (heap). The supportive services staff connects seniors and/or their caregivers to relevant groups which provide support. This can include disease specific groups such as alzheimer's, diabetes, or parkinson's as well as grief support or caregiver support.
senior center - activities and events that promote good mental, physical, and emotional health and enhance the quality of life are provided to all persons who wish to participate. These activities are conducted in a modern, well-equipped, wheelchair accessible facility, and are designed to minimize loneliness, isolation, depression, and physical disability associated with the elderly. The council acts as a host agency for the dayton easter seals mature worker program, providing job training to income eligible persons over age 55. The council utilizes these trainees in its cafe, library, and administrative offices.
