Causes: Health, Health (General & Financing)
Mission: PowerSource Tucson, Inc is a nonprofit organization serving Tucson to provide support, advocacy and networking opportunities to women living with HIV/AIDS. Our goal is to provide hope and empowerment for taking charge of their health and well-being. The strength and values of PowerSource Tucson, Inc represent our commitment to HIV/AIDS and ability to respond effectively and directly to evolving needs of infected women in our community. This goal serves: • To empower women with HIV/AIDS to become more self-reliant • To give women with HIV/AIDS a place to meet others and share feelings • To provide referral and information on local resources which provide direct services • To mobilize participants for prevention outreach to other women • To provide training and work opportunities for participants
Results: Our client base is increasing as more women find out about out programs and services. A major obstacle is isolation due to stigma and sometimes physical/mental challenges.
Target demographics: women living with HIV/AIDS
Direct beneficiaries per year: 40+ women living with HIV/AIDS
Geographic areas served: the greater Tucson area
Programs: empowerment workshops, social interaction, training in basic skills like CPR/first aid, and peer mentorship. Each year we have 2 major events - 1) we pay registration fee for 10 clients to attend the AZ Strength for the Journey HIV retreat, and 2) a 5-course, sit down Holiday Luncheon with gifts.
