Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Protestant, Religion, Unknown

Mission: Portland Fellowship is a local organization dedicated to equipping and uniting churches and individuals to effectively communicate the message of liberation from homosexuality through the power and grace of Jesus Christ, as well as demonstrating how to effectively convey support and understanding to individuals facing the reality of a homosexual loved one.Portland Fellowship is a non-profit, interdenominational ministry. We are not a mental health facility. Instead our methodology utilizes personal testimonies, trained lay counseling, Biblical instruction and spiritually oriented accountability groups. in doing so we seek to bring to the homosexual the redemptive message of Christ. We support no political agendas or candidates.Portland Fellowship upholds heterosexuality as God?s creative intent for humanity, and subsequently views homosexual expression as outside of that intent. We recognize homosexual tendencies as one of many disorders that beset fallen humanity. Choosing to resolve these tendencies through homosexual behavior, taking on a homosexual identity, and involvement in a homosexual lifestyle is considered destructive, as it distorts God?s intent for the individual and is thus sinful.Unfortunately, neither of the two most common responses to this issue truly resolves the conflict. The first is to condemn the homosexual out of fear, ignorance and self-righteousness. And the second is the unqualified validation of the homosexual and his or her lifestyle.Instead, we believe that Christ offers a truly healing alternative to homosexuality. Portland Fellowship upholds redemption for the homosexual person as the process whereby sin's power is broken, and the individual is freed to know and experience true identity as discovered in Christ and His Church. And that process entails the freedom to grow into heterosexuality
