My son has been involved with Play Rugby for a few years now. The coaches and mentors have meant so much to him as he has evolved into a teenager. Having so many young men and women take an interest in his growth as a person and his well being is priceless. They are an incredible organization with huge hearts and boundless energy. I have great respect for all involved and thank them for being part of my son's life.

Causes: Children & Youth, Education, Elementary & Secondary Schools, Football, Literacy, Physical Fitness & Community Recreational Facilities, Sports, Youth Development Programs
Mission: We use the unique power of rugby to empower and inspire youth, primarily from underserved communities, to Go Forward and realize their true potential.
Results: Since 2005 the program has served over 10,000 NYC students. 85% of participants come from underserved neighborhoods reflecting approximately 70% being from either African American or of Hispanic descent and 50% living below the poverty line. These young people have found a new outlet for self-expression, interaction and development that otherwise, they would have never received. Participation rates in the program are nearly 90%.

Programs: Using flag and tackle rugby as a vehicle to promote character development and leadership skills, Play Rugby offers three types of programs: Play Rugby Academy A rugby club reimagined, the Play Rugby Academy is a place of learning and growing, a diverse and inclusive community where children’s social and emotional development is the primary objective. Every child will find their level across our flag, introduction to tackle and competitive tackle teams, available for boys and girls aged 5 to 18. For High School students in our Academy, we offer wrap around services that drive towards graduation and college enrollment, along with the development of skills that will ensure success both on and off the rugby field! After-School Enrichment At our Enrichment sites, Youth Development Mentors work directly with young people after school, delivering our flag rugby-based youth development curriculum. Our mentors focus on creating vital connections with the students and work towards seasonal competitions and tournaments where they can demonstrate both their rugby skills and Play Rugby values. Train-the-Trainer Through our coach training and mentorship program, partners gain access to our high-impact curriculum; regular coach training and ongoing, onsite mentoring; and professionally run seasonal competitions and tournaments with other youth clubs.
