Mission: Pitcares purpose is to help break the chains of generational poverty, strengthen families, and bring hope for the next generation, through education, job training, and mentoring. Mission statement to build relationships within the community that will provide us the opportunity to serve as advocates for those in need; to help families achieve financial independence through providing decent, affordable housing, life skills training and one on one mentoring; and to bring hope to the next generation through personal relationships, and programming to benefit the younger community of pitcairn
Programs: Food bank - each month, we provide frozen meats, dairy products, canned meat, soup, cereal, dry goods, personal hygiene items and fresh fruit and vegetables to over 120 low income families in the community
youth mentoring - pitcare volunteers meet every wednesday night with junior/senior high school age boys where we provide a meal, offer encouragement and discuss relevant issues facing youth today. We also offer elementary age girls club on tuesday evenings where we teach them how to cook a meal, prepare a craft and mentor them in situations relevant to that age group. Finally, we also offer a tuesday evening dinner each week to junior/senior high school age girls where we share a meal, mentor and discuss relevant issues facing them today. We were also able to help a number of students acquire summer jobs/internships. We interact with approximately 75 boys and girls each week.
life skills - a comprehensive program offering families a place to live at a reduced rent with a portion of that rent being held in escrow for the family to use as a down payment on their own home at the end of the 2 year program. Other activities include a. Finance classes - pitcare offers finance classes to learn how to work within a budget and make wise financial choices. Pitcare graduated it's first class with 8 participants in this 12 week program. B. Home maintenance mentoring - teach family members how to maintain and care for a home. This is an ongoing process throughout the 2 year program. C. Home ownership program - through wells fargo bank - facilitate plans created by wells fargo bank for our families which get them to the point of credit worthiness and pre-approval for home loans. One of our families has successfully been pre-approved for a mortgage. Two other families are working their plans to become credit-worthy for home loan purposes. D. Continuing education support - help students either through tutoring or acquiring their ged. Tutoring services were given to numerous high school students throughout the year as needed.
community center and library - the purchase of a building which will be used for a new program that provides a fully-functional community library which will also offer tutoring, after school children programming, summer reading programs and other community classes and will be a gathering place for people in the community
