Mission: The corporation was organized to be operated, and at all times shall be operated, exclusively for the benefit of or to carry out the purposes of athens regional medical center, inc. , and such other exempt organizations controlled by or affiliated with athens regional medical center, inc. , by assisting said organizations in fund raising and fund management, making grants, gifts, and other distributions to said organizations; and by engaging in such other activities as may benefit or further the purposes of said organization and to engage in any and all activities consistent with and in furtherance of the above purpose.
Programs: Loran smith cancer care services: cancer care services provides increased early detection screenings, enhanced educational and rehabilitation programs, even more state-of-the-art diagnostic technology in the breast health center and increases our endowment so we can continue to provide our support programs and services free of charge.
neonatal intensive care unit: of the 2,700 annual deliveries at athens regional, 10% require extra attention and medical treatment. Our exceptional neonatal intensive care unit provides around-the-clock intensive nursing care to these babies. Our nurses and doctors must use specialty equipment and tools designed to make caring for these special patients as safe and developmentally appropriate as possible. Premature babies are more sensitive to their environment than full-term babies and react more to changes in temperature, light, sound, scent and activity. When premature babies have too much stimulation, they basically shut down. That's why it's so important these tiny patients and their parents have a quiet space, privacy, special equipment and tools. The campaign to build a new neonatal intensive care unit is $2. 5 million. Gifts of all sizes are necessary to provide these services to our babies and families. You can count on our staff to offer loving, personal and quality care.
