Mission: The mission of the phi beta kappa society is to champion education in the liberal arts and sciences, foster freedom of thought, and recognize academic excellence.
Programs: The american scholar is a quarterly publication with a circulation to the general public. The current circulation is approximately 25,800 (23,600 active subscriptions, 1,300 newsstand sales, and 900 free/nominal rate distribution). The publication presents articles on subjects of broad interest, in current affairs, cultural affairs, philosophy, science, and arts.
the national arts & sciences initiative engages the phi beta kappa society's cross-country network of members, chapters, and associations to connect with leaders, shares the value of the arts and sciences through all of life, and advocates for policies that strengthen an arts and sciences education.
the visiting scholar program invites scholars to undertake a series of visits to institutions, contributing to the intellectual life of the campus by making possible the exchange of ideas between distinguished visiting scholars, the resident faculty, and students.
