Mission: People first of missouri is organized exclusively for charatible, educational or scientific purposes, as may qualify it as exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code of 1986 (or the corresponding provision of any future united states internal revenue law. ) more specifically, such purpoases include, but not limited to, promoting self-advocacy and providing training to self-advocates and advisors in the areas of effective leadership and board management for local people first chapters and to increase the quality of life and equal rights for individuals with developmental disabilities and break down barriers built by peoples attitudes toward individuals with developmental disabilities.
Programs: People first of missouri (pfmo) participated and managed a small contract to be part of a 4 state self-advocacy network called heartland self- advocacy resource network (hsrn). Resources were used to support network activities, and self-advocacy development in each of the respective states. Pfmo provided grants and administrative oversight to the other 3 states. Combined, well over 300 self-advocates with disabilities benefited in the three states.
