The provision of highly skilled, competent, and compassionate nursing care is essential to fulfill our commitment to excellence in clinical practice, education, and nursing research. Awards and recognition holy spirit hospital (hsh) earned multiple awards from the american heart/american stroke association in 2016-2017 by participating in the get with the guidelines program. The get with the guidelines program encompasses several cardiovascular disease processes and honors participating hospitals for following evidence based practice, improving outcomes, and decreasing readmissions. Holy spirit hospital was awarded the stroke gold plus award, target: stroke honor roll elite, afib gold award (first in the state of pennsylvania), heart failure gold plus award, target: heart failure honor roll, resuscitation silver award, and heart attack receiving center silver award. Nightingale award carol o'hara, bsn, rn, bc, med, performance improvement coordinator for transitions at hsh, received the 2017 nightingale award for community nursing. The nightingale award of pennsylvania recognizes nursing excellence. A variety of services are offered in a comfortable and warm environment with a team of specially-trained nurses who provide care to each mom and baby during labor, delivery, and recovery. The neonatal intensive care unit (nicu) is staffed by some of the area's most well-respected neonatologists, ready to assist physicians or midwives with babies' medical needs. The nicu offers level iii care onsite, which means today's most advanced medical technology is close at hand to deal with any special needs. Staff members have cared for babies as young as 24-weeks' gestation and other babies who need intensive care.
