Mission: Article i missionthe mission of psss is as follows:(1) to improve the quality of life for all residents of mutual redevelopment houses, inc. (penn south), as well as for residents of the surrounding community in keeping with government requirements. (2) to provide a variety of programs including health, educational, cultural, recreational activities and to provide counseling, referral and other related services to penn south residents of all ages. (3) to provide a variety of programs including health, educational, cultural and recreational activities to the surrounding community. (4) to be sponsor and fiduciary of penn south program for seniors (psps), penn south home organized personal services (ps-hops), as well as any other entity or program it deems appropriate. (5) psss and programs/activities it operates or sponsors may charge appropriate fees as authorized by the board of directors, in keeping with government restrictions.
Programs: Penn south program for seniors (psps), the largest and longest established program, is driven by the needs and interests of senior residents. Psps assists nearly 1,200 individuals and their families each year with case management, case assistance, healthcare assistance and management, health promotion, comprehensive group programs and ancillary services. Psps also developed and oversees a comprehensive falls prevention program, sharply reducing dangerous falls throughout the co-op. The program is open to anyone vulnerable to falling who wishes to learn techniques to avoid falls.
psss also has several clubs for all residents, including:- music club events bi-monthly, such as concerts, performances and sing-alongs, organized by volunteers around various music genres, open to all residents (30-60+ attendees at events)- art/sketch weekly classes for adults 17 and over (10-18 participants)- schmooze and booze weekly social get-togethers (10-35 attendees)- seasonal chess classes for all ages (15+ attendees)- annual multi-media weekend art exhibit (open for visit by all residents and community)- seasonal craft events open to all ages (10-15 attendees)
the ps-hops (penn south home organized personal services) program connects its over 500 members (18 and over) with health services and products at reduced prices, including home health aides, emergency response systems, hearing and vision services, and non-prescription pharmacy products.
