Our agency refers clients to Her Justice for assistance with legal matters (divorce, visa, etc.). The consequences were horrific...leading to my son being abused, never graduating high school, making bad choices, ending up in jail ..my relationship ,and my other children's relationship ,with my first son was destroyed...the judge, in his wisdom, thought he would be better off with an abusive man with a fancy lawyer than his mother with a legal aide representative. I am still in disbelief that a court would award a one year old to an abusive husband. I was twenty one years old, clueless and naive, and I remain absolutely positive that if Her Justice had existed, my story would have been different...my son's story would have been different. The court system failed me and then my son, but thanks to Her Justice , so many women won't have to share my story. Thank you so much, for what you do.
I want to express my humble gratitude first to God and then to Her Justice, a not-for-profit organization and their team, especially attorney Margie Bechara, for helping me throughout my immigration case from the beginning until the end – they did not leave me alone but were with me step-by-step during the entire process.
A difficult labor of patience, kindness, and professionalism towards me. I was a victim of domestic violence and they accepted my case for a U visa and then the process for me to become a lawful permanent resident.
It was well worth the wait of many years but I always had faith that everything would go well and we achieved my much-desired dream. Now my voice no longer fails me when I am asked if I am legal in this country. Lowering my head, I would reply that I was not and I suffered through many uncomfortable situations.
But now thanks to God I can say that I am a lawful permanent resident of this country, I am very happy because without Her Justice I could not have achieved this dream. I have many plans in mind now that I am a lawful resident I will succeed in this country of opportunities and one day I will become an American citizen.

My academic career has been greatly influenced by my one-year internship at Her Justice. When you hear acclaim and credit for everyone who helped provide legal services to low-income women and vulnerable individuals, including children, you know you work in a terrific working-environment. My internship took place during Covid, and the team never stopped working, despite the technical challenges of reaching out to such vulnerable groups and mentoring other law firms.

Abuse revolves around the manipulation of power dynamics. The journey towards recovery, which entails breaking free from the clutches of an abuser, commences with the pursuit of legal protection and advocacy. I found myself in a marriage that systematically dismantled my physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The aftermath left me in a state of financial destitution, rendering legal assistance an unattainable luxury. Moreover, I was ignorant of my legal rights.
My heart brims with gratitude towards Ms. Fiaza Sayeed, the who reached out to me and was so full of kindness in my state of fragility , and Ms. Susanna Saul, the steadfast advocate who continues to champion my cause. Without their unwavering support, their kindness when I needed it most, I might not be here alive today, putting these words down.
It's been a decade since I mustered the strength to walk away from the nightmare, and the healing journey is far from over. But I'm fortunate to be here , still standing, still surviving, with a real shot at healing and personal growth.

I’ve interned, volunteered, and worked at Her Justice since college. I always find a way to go back to Her Justice because I deeply admired their team, their mission, and their devotion to serve women in need. Everyone I’ve met at Her Justice shows a deep committed to their work and clients, and it’s so clear how much they value their work and how it impacts the women of New York. I truly wish there was a Her Justice chapter all throughout the country, and all Latin America.
I was actually on the opposite side of this and I am ashamed of the childish man I once was. I was blinded by evil people around me and wrongly took it out on the woman that I loved. Alcoholism plagued me from a young age and I have learned that I do not need alcohol anymore. I am truly sorry for the mental trauma I have caused to the mother of my child and I hope that she can see the man I am now and not the boy I once was. So I can see my child again. I fully support this non-profit as I have fully understood the extent of my actions through various anger management and group therapy sessions. I am proud to say I no longer struggle with anger issues and I am 7 months sober off of alcohol. I know that does not make it right but I just want to show that I have changed and I truly hate everything I put that hard working woman through.

Humanity needs a Her Justice chapter in every state and city in the US. Her Justice saves and begins the restoration of lives of women, and their children.
Her Justice saved my life when no one in my family could. Her Justice is such a unique organization providing legal support to women who are trying to free themselves from their abuser and domestic violence, that this organization should be modeled in every city and state. It is shocking and sad that in 2022 women can have such difficulty leaving their abusers, but it is the truth and Her Justice has saved countless lives through legal representation. I will always consider Her Justice one of the best advocacy organizations, globally.
It's hard to believe that there are so many women in our city who need "legal advice and protection;" and that Her Justice is able to provide critical legal services and advocacy to over 7,500 women and children a year. If it weren't for groups like Her Justice, New York Junior League, Dress for Success, Safe Horizons...where would people seek aid?

Her Justice is an amazing non profit. I joined the staff in October 2016 as part of the development team. I sat in an area with the legal assistants and was in awe of how kind and patient they were with our clients and also how many languages they spoke! Hearing my colleagues passion and commitment to our clients was always inspiring. I also loved hearing from some of our former clients about how thankful they were and all they overcame during a partnership we did with the Moth. And I got to know a handful of the clients that would volunteer at events. Women living in poverty in NYC need legal help and the staff and volunteer attorneys at Her Justice are doing a top notch job. It's a great non profit and if you, dear reader, are in a position to donate the women they serve would greatly benefit. I left this past February for a different kind of job but Her Justice will always have a special place in my heart!
I have served as pro bono outside counsel for clients screened by Her Justice for over a decade. Her Justice interviews and screens the clients and gathers essential documents to kick the matter off and then provides support and mentoring throughout the life of the matter. They work hard to match the client and firm and to support the matter as it progresses through the courts. They are responsive to questions and incredibly knowledgeable on many areas of family law.

I have worked with Her Justice for nearly seven years as a pro bono attorney, and it is thanks to that work that I can consider myself an immigration lawyer. I am a volunteer attorney with Her Justice. Working with Her Justice was my first pro bono experience. I was concerned that I had no prior experience working with victims of domestic violence or working on an immigration matter, but I got all of the support I needed from the organization. I worked with Her Justice first as a law student intern 15 years ago, then as a law firm associate doing pro bono cases for Her Justice-referred clients, then as a member of Her Justice's Junior Advisory Board, and now in the legal department of a large corporation overseeing a thriving relationship with Her Justice as a pro bono partner.
I've been inspired at every turn, from each of these different vantage points, by the urgent dedication of Her Justice staff and board members to their mission of supporting and empowering women to change their lives, and by the professionalism with which they’ve supported and equipped so many of us to be a part of this important work.

I am an attorney at a large law firm and worked with Her Justice on two pro bono cases for women petitioning for immigration status in the United States under the Violence Against Women Act. On a scale of 1-5, I would give Her Justice a 10! I was going through a very difficult time in life, as an undocumented individual with a newborn, and was lost and I didn’t know what to do. I was legally married and needed help with all figuring out custody, support and my divorce, and as a 20 year old, I really needed guidance. I was connected with Her Justice (In-Motion at the time) and from there Her Justice really took care of me. Laura, my attorney for custody, child support and my divorce, supported me not only legally, but by taking the time to sit and just wait with me through the whole process. She wasn’t like someone just being paid to be there, but really was making sure she made the best efforts decision for me and my child. I was also in college and scared about my status, and Her Justice assisted me with my immigration options. The only reason I’m prospering in this country with my child is because of the support of Her Justice.
I have volunteered through Her Justice to assist with a divorce matter and a U-visa application. Both experiences have been a wonderful opportunity to help women in need while learning a new area of the law. Her Justice is an amazing organization that guides volunteers through every step of the process.
I became involved with Her Justice a little less than a year ago helping out as a translator on a U-Visa case. It was a super rewarding experience to help break down some of the language barriers and to be able to make a really uncomfortable situation for someone a little more comfortable.

I was an immigrant woman who fell in love and married the man I believed to be the man of my dreams.It turned out to be a huge nightmare. After 2 children and several years of abuse . I decided to return to my country , only to find out I would not be able to take my kids. I could not support them since I was undocumented and i could not run with ..until I found Her Justice. This organization help me with my self esteem my children and help me gain legal status. I am now able to support myself and my kids and we are safe and free from the abuser.

In a world that can be intimidating, frightening and sometimes debilitating; that can make you feel lost and all alone, it is a small miracle to have a place like InMotion to come to your aid. The people at InMotion are more than volunteers. They represent a safe haven for the women they help. They represent a chance at a fresh start, protection from abusive partners, a chance at dignity and a little hope. It is not an overstatement to say that many of the women who get help from InMotion would not survive without it. InMotion and other institutions like it provide an invaluable service to a sector of the population that often needs it most.

I have been involved with inMotion in several capacities for the past five years. I currently serve on the Junior Board, and also volunteer my professional services to aid the women that inMotion serves. As an accountant, I fully appreciate how lean and efficient the organization is. Through their leveraged service model, they are able to provide legal services that are valued far in excess of their operating budget. In other words, every dollar that inMotion receives provides more than a dollar's worth of legal services for an inMotion client. That gives me great comfort that my donations are utilized wisely.

In the past six months I have lost three amazing women to domestic violence. Lisa and Ariale Rainey, violently killed by an angry spouse, Ms. Horn by her children's father, leaving three grieving children in a perpetual state on unbelief. Inmotion is an organization that provides free family law services to low income women and children who are often victims of domestic violence, and in doing so, gives their clients access to justice and a chance at a better life. It is in our best interest to support and replicate this non-profit organization who continues to serve those who need it most.

As a survivor of domestic violence in my youth, I can say with absolute confidence that the work done at inMotion, Inc. in service of New York City is critical to the city's continued success in preventing and prosecuting Violence Against Women in the five boroughs. My experience with inMotion, Inc. began during their last annual Story-by-Story fundraiser. I was looking for a way to promote my Miss America platform, as a local titleholder living in the city. What I got in return was so much more than what I bargained for...I had the pleasure of interning in the events department, working on the Spring Photography Auction and Fundraiser. After working behind the scenes for months, I became familiar with the day-to-day business of inMotion. It's not just the amount of cases they handle which make their record impressive; it's the demeanor of the counselors and staff that make inMotion a force to be reckoned with across non-profit and for-profit sectors. InMotion is a not-for-profit organization, only attracting, much to its credit, a staff of individuals who place the amount of care given to each client as a top priority. InMotion operates with great attention and sensitivity to every case that comes their way. This organization operates on the desire to have nothing short of the best resolutions and provided care for women and children in need. InMotion, Inc. is a champion for change in a political and social climate where there are demands for continued progress for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. InMotion is a great organization filled with amazing, dedicated people. I volunteered there for the past two summers and I truly enjoyed being part of the InMotion team. Everyone there made me feel so appreciated, and I truly felt that my work made a difference. The services they provide are successful at changing lives and helping women. The people who work at InMotion are welcoming, selfless, and dedicated to their work. I believe there is a lot of room for InMotion to grow, and I can't wait to see what the organization will be able to accomplish!
Like another reviewer, I currently work with inMotion clients as a pro bono attorney and previously worked in-house at inMotion as an extern. InMotion is a wonderful organization not only for the obvious reason that it helps an extremely vulnerable population in a life-changing way, but also because its organizational structure--i.e. focusing on in-take, screening, and mentoring in-house while outsourcing the cases to thousands of pro bono attorneys--allows it to help far, far more individuals than more traditional legal service organizations. I cannot say enough good things about inMotion and constantly recommend it to fellow attorneys considering pro bono work.
InMotion is a fantastic organization! I was first introduced to it about five years ago when I served as a translator for a client who’s case my firm was handling. I was immediately impressed with how dedicated both the attorneys and staff members were. Since then I have witnessed the impact that the organization truly has on the lives of the women it serves. I have also volunteered with InMotion’s development department and can honestly say that I have never worked with a more devoted and kind group of people. My experience with InMotion has been very rewarding and I am honored to be a small part of it.
I have worked on many matters through inMotion as a pro bono attorney and as an in-house extern. inMotion is a truly wonderful organization staffed with caring and capable individuals, and excels at assisting a huge number of women desperately in need of the services that it provides. inMotion staff are always able to provide volunteer attorneys with resources and guidance, and because of that inMotion has been able to build a great network of attorneys who are able to assist women in need in family and matrimonial law matters. I am an attorney who has had a wonderful experience working with inMotion over the past several years in various capacities. First, as an attorney at a large firm, I have worked with the dedicated case supervisors to take on and complete several divorce and immigration cases. Second, as an extern at the organization for five months, where I got to see the inner workings of inMotion and just how truly wonderful the organization is run from top to bottom. Third, as a participant and volunteer at many inMotion fundraising events, where staff, attorneys, clients and other supporters come together to work towards raising money for indigent women to have representation across New York state. The sheer number of people inMotion helps each year is a tribute to how truly incredible the business model of this organization is. Five stars for the most well run, dedicated and professional non-profit I have ever worked with.

inMotion is an incredibly lean and focused organization. It has built on a lifetime of contacts and dedication to serving low income women to create a streamlined clearinghouse that links women in need to talented pro bono attorneys. inMotion trains and supervises all pro bono attorneys, and provides tremendous resources and insight into the areas of family and immigration law. Through inMotion, I provided pro bono legal representation to women in need in divorce, child support, immigration, custody, and spousal support proceedings. I now serve on inMotion's Junior Advisory Board, where I have learned more about the internal workings of the organization. I am tremendously impressed by the dedication and integrity of the inMotion leadership and staff. This is a fabulous organization!
I have worked with inMotion as an in-house extern, a law firm pro bono attorney, an event volunteer, a donor and as a junior advisory board member. inMotion's model for providing much-needed legal services to an extremely vulnerable population is truly outstanding. By providing informative training and regular supervision, inMotion is able to manage thousands of cases with a relatively small, but highly efficient and knowledgeable legal staff. Because they found inMotion, my clients have (1) acquired immigration status; (2) kept custody of their children; (3) achieved financial security; and (4) legally (and emotionally and physically) separated from their husbands, many of whom abused and threatened them and their children for years. By working with major law firms in NYC, inMotion is uniquely able to guarantee that the women it serves receive highly sophisticated, professional legal advice regardless of their means, experience, language, or immigration status. This is a wonderful organization.
I have worked with this organization on and off for a number of years, primarily providing database assistance to their development department and assisting with fundraising events. I have worked alongside attorneys securing women and children lifesaving legal assistance, and have seen first hand the differences they have made for their clients. In my capacity working with the development team, I have also come to appreciate inMotion's "leverage model," wherein every dollar raised is capable of providing several times that amount in legal assistance through their extensive network of legal volunteers. It's a brilliantly effective model for engendering positive changes in the population they serve, one that makes me feel that much better about giving them my support.

The cases are well vetted and the inMotion mentors are always available to answer questions or offer advice. In addition, helping the women and children referred by inMotion is incredibly personally rewarding. They are really nice people who are in very tough situations and don't have anywhere else to turn. Without inMotion, many of them would fall through the cracks, but with inMotion's help they are able to turn their lives around.
