Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Arts & Culture, Opera

Mission: Peninsula Teen Opera, founded in 1998, is a not for profit company dedicated to the highest standards of opera training for teenagers committed to sharing their performances with their peers throughout the community. The Company's mission is fully reflected in its motto: "Teens Performing Opera for Teens." PTO is a unique organization, the first of its kind in the United States. Bridging the gap between youth and professional theater companies, PTO gives its students the theatrical skills and discipline needed to excel in a wide range of opera and operetta productions. The professional faculty of opera coaches and stage directors selects music from opera, operetta and selected musical theater appropriate for the vocal abilities of young singers. Working with the approval and guidance of each student’s voice teacher, PTO creates a vocally safe environment for its ensemble. Instruction in stage deportment, character development, and musical accuracy in solo and ensemble singing are the cornerstones of PTO’s exceptional training. While developing their voices, PTO’s students also develop their minds and bodies to perform the highly disciplined art of opera.
