Nonprofit Overview

Mission: Our mission is to save shelter dogs, one dog at a time, finding them permanent, loving homes, and educating the public on the consequences of abandoning, giving up, and turning animals in to the shelters. We promote spay and neutering. Though there are many responsible and reputable rescues out there, the sheer number of animals entering our shelters on a daily basis is truly heartbreaking, shocking and overwhelming we were created to do our best to help alleviate the problem of overcrowding in California's Shelter System and help rescue and save the lives of Shelter dogs one dog at a time.

What do they do with the animals they save; do they have a sanctuary?
After volunteering and seeing what goes on at two shelters in OC, I was a appalled.
OC is a facade. It’s pathetic for a somewhat affluent and progressive county. Hate this place !

I have no experience with this nonprofit, didn’t realize it was a rescue.

Fabulous and caring rescue group that really does care about the well being about the doggies first and foremost. And Paw Protectors also makes their fosters and volunteers feel very special too!

What a great experience it was working with Paw Protectors Rescue.

We are so thrilled with your rescue, Paw Protectors. You were communicative with us when we were adopting Oliver without making things more difficult for us than need be (like some other rescues). You made Oliver accessible for us to meet when he was at the vet clinic and everything went so smoothly. We love our baby so much! He is our first born and we cannot wait to spoil him for the rest of his life!! We were so pleased with our experience, when my 30th birthday came up, I told some people that instead of a gift I wanted them to donate to your rescue. That money is better spent on dogs in need of care. We intend to donate to you whenever possible. We want to do all we can to help get dogs out of shelters and into your rescue and foster homes. Thank you, Gayle and Sharon, for all you do. We are so grateful!

Gayle Steiner-Heller is awesome! She helped my family adopt a papillion/terrier rescue dog. She made the adoption process easy and stress free. We love our new dog and we thank Gayle everyday for her! From my first email, to just this Monday, Gayle has been sweet and positive! I am amazed at the dedication she and her sister have in rescuing all dogs. Thank you to Gayle and Paw Protectors for the newest addition to our family. :-)

This rescue truly cares about all animals. Feral cats, dogs, dogs with issues all! These are people you could trust to watch your own animals. They really care about the animals welfare first and take care of all of them like their own.

Sharon and I met on facebook. Sharon helped me to rescue a dog from the Baldwin Animal Shelter. Her and I became friends and soon after I began fostering for her and Paw Protectors. Sharon is amazing, time and again I see Sharon taking the dogs that nobody else will. Seniors, Special Needs, Aggression issues or needing expensive veterinary care it doesn't matter Sharon is there for the dogs that need her the most. Sharon also shows this kind of loyalty and care with her fosters as well. If you are looking for a group to volunteer for Paw Protectors is a great place to go. You need a rescue that backs there fosters and this one goes above and beyond. Sharon has many times helped me both financially and in support for dogs that her rescue was not involved in. That's the kind of person she is and that's the kind of organization Paw Protectors is.

Paw Protectors is a great group of people dedicated to helping the animals in hill kill shelters. Sharon and Gayle are the best and always put the animals welfare first. I had just started volunteering at a L.A. County Shelter when I came upon Phyllis an older lady poodle who was hurting. I sat with her and helped her get up to eat (she had a BIG appetite). I visited her for 3 days not knowing what would happen to her, then I found her postings on facebook (over 100) and read that she was recued by Paw Protectos and was at a vet by my work. At lunch I went over to see her and they got me in contact with Sharon. She was very sweet and let me visit Phyllis, eventually she was released and in the comforts of Sharon’s home. I made a small donation and asked if there was anything else I could do to help. So, I’ve been helping at their adoption events in Oceanside as often as possible and that is where I met Gayle, a great lady who always has a smile and boundless energy. I’m so glad I met them and I know you would be too!

I met Sharon Logan through facebook. Paw Protectors has been a wonderful advocate for the rescue of shelter dogs. Sharon of Paw Protectors helped me rescue my dog Callie which I call her since I live in New York and she came from California. I have rescued two more dogs with Sharon that went to other friends. They are extremely organized and professional. My dog came with a complete health check with their Vet not the shelters and was sent to me via airplane with everything she needed. I would highly recommend this organization to anyone who needed to adopt or wanted to foster one of their dogs. They are first and foremost commited to the well being of the dogs first, and that is how it should be. Thank you Paw Protectors Lori Hirsh

The amazing folks at Paw Protectors are the real deal! It is rare to meet an entire organization that is so focussed on putting the pets first at every level. I have spent a lot of time working with them as a volunteer, supporter and donor and i would encourage everyone to take a look at their track record as it is extremely impressive!!

Since 2010 I have been a volunteer and donor on Facebook saving dogs from euthanasia and have dealt with many rescues. Gayle Steiner Heller is tops. Her dedication and compassion is unsurpassed. Paw Protectors is highly unique in that it treats each of their dogs in need like their own cherished pets. These angels are given the best of care and are lovingly nurtured until they are adopted by their forever families. Submitted by: Karen V. Stefanini, Back Bay, Boston, MA

We very recently adopted a dog through Paw Protectors Rescue. They are amazing! Our pup, Max was being surrendered @ a shelter by a family who didn't want to pay the surrender fee so they let him loose in the shelter's parking lot. Thankfully Sharon from Paw Protectors was there and rescued him and took him home to foster him! She took care of taking him to the Vet to be checked out and he was given all the necessary shots. He was sent to us with such great care! They do such great work and I would highly recommend Paw Protectors to anyone that is looking to rescue a dog!!!

My husband and I volunteer for Paw Protectors. We devote our time at the adoption events to give back to the ones who have no voice of their own. I cannot imagine not spending the time with the staff and animal over the weekend. As a dog trainer, foster, volunteer and lover of animals I find that this rescue des a phenominal job of helping those in need. It takes a person with a real heart to be able to continue this work everyday. So many go without chances and this rescue is trying to change that everyday. Paw Protectors gives these animals the chance they never would have gotten before. THere are so many unresponsible owners out there and Paw Protectors are the saving grace for the unfortunate animals that cme from those awful owners. I have alwas dreamed o having my K9 facility and I wouldnt imagine working with a different rescue (which says alot because when it comes down to my name, only the best will be affiliate with it) If you are looking to volunteer, fosteror adopt this is the rescue for you. Every animal gets the attention it needs ranging from a loving foster home to all medical expenses. Every animal deserves a fighting chance and thanks to Paw Protectors they will.

I have been a volunteer, foster, and twice over adopter with Paw Protectors. I have volunteered for many organizations and rescues, but Paw Protectors has gone above and beyond my expectations of what a rescue does, how they care for their animals, and how they treat their fosters, volunteers and adopters. As a volunteer they have treated me with respect as well as taught me about rescuing and caring for the animals, which no other rescue had the time to do. As a foster, they made sure everything was completely taken care of, down to blankets, and dog bowls, and always checked in with me during the week to make sure the dog as well as me, we're doing okay and offered to get anything for the dog if I needed anything. As an adopter twice over, I was treated like gold from Paw Protectors, they loaded me up with treats and always assured us that if there is anything we ever need, to call Gayle or Sharon and my needs would be met. They have impressed me when their dedication to the people, the animals and the amount of respect they have for everyone they meet. I am considerably impressed with the time an effort they put into saving the animals from the shelters as well as paying for multiple things out of pocket, no matter what because they are there for the animals.

I am a volunteer for this Rescue: I have transported and helped foster. I have been amazed at the compassion of this rescue and those who work with the rescue. They are professional people who care just make sense. They try very hard to match dogs with owners and they ALWAYS give the right vet care to their rescues and help their fosters. I was touched to meet them first online through Fb earlier this year and honored to meet Sharon Logan face to face. during a transport. If only there were more rescues who rescued "smart" made sure they did it legally and took care of their fosters and adoptions. Yes, they follow rescue protocol and everyone wins: especially the animals that need so much thrown away, abused and abandoned by society. They sure can use everyone's help and support. WE NEED this rescue and perhaps others can model after them...

I am a Foster and a Volunteer for this Rescue! let me just say they are amazing, I have fostered for other rescue groups before Paw, but now will only Foster for Paw Protectors. Sharon and Gayle go above and beyond what is necessary and required every day for the dogs they Rescue! They have them Vetted to the max, make sure all their Fosters are taken care of , if there is ever any issues or medical problems they are right there to get them the medical help they need or we take them straight to the Vet and when asked what kind of treatment they don't hesitate to say whatever is needed! The dogs in the care of Paw Protectors get the best Vetting, Food, Grooming! We as the Fosters get the best support and backing from Paw Protectors Rescue and know they are always there to help us!
