Mission: The foundation was created to help protect young adults in the community from sudden cardiac arrest ("sca") by providing programs that permit early detection of heart defects and cardiovascular conditions, access to defibrillation and education that increases awareness. The foundation works collaboratively with medical professionals and other organizations to identify heart defects and eliminate sca in young adults by organizing and facilitating youth heart screenings and training students to perform "hands only" cardiopulmonary resuscitation ("cpr") and to use automated external defibrillators ("aed").
Programs: Patrick schoonover heart foundation held three free student heart screenings. Two were held at various local schools (shakopee west middle school and coon rapids high school) and one held at the apple valley community center. We screened 650 14-18 year old students and found: 25 with hypertension with repeated check and 12 with structural or electrical defects. We also trained approximately 500 kids & adults how to perform hands only cpr and use an aed.
